Going Natural

On Saturday we decided that we were going to have a taste of nature and teach the kids what was edible in the process.  So we broke the kids and grand kids up in two groups and told them they had to find 5 things each for us that were edible.  They could not be the same things as the other group.  We would have ten things altogether.

 They brought back:
Clover
Wild Strawberry with Leaves

Crabapples

Wild Heirloom Apples
Edible Sumac

Pine Needles
Honeysuckle Blossoms
Black Walnuts
They also brought 3 other things we were not sure what were (those got tossed).

So we have looked up recipes to make with these things and came up with a sumac juice/tea, a salad made with the strawberry leaves, clover, apple, crabapples, honeysuckle blossoms, and black walnuts.
Maybe I will go pick more honeysuckle blossoms and make honeysuckle sorbet for desert.

I think everyone had fun with this adventure. The apples, clover and strawberry leaves I used in a salad.
The rest of the items, I just did not have time to deal with. Maybe next time!?
