Spencer, West Virginia
I have a nice garden this year, at least most of it (see my blog on Staw Bale gardening). I planted tomatoes, peas, beans, zuchinni, green peppers, purple peppers and other peppers, eggplant, swiss chard, potatoes, sweet potatoes, peanuts, pumpkin, onion, watermelon, asparagus, more strawberries, basil, blueberries, raspberries, fruit trees, broccoli, carrots, beets, radishes and brussels sprouts. I have had a serious bug problem with some of the vegies.

New Property
As a lot of you know we live in West Virginia. What you may not know is we bought 4+ acres ajacent to our property (it is not flat, nothing in West Virginia is flat), it has 2 houses on it. The people who recently moved out had the property forclosed on by the bank. Anyway they fit the description of "white trash" to a tee. Both homes had trash everywhere; the big house is leaning because of foundation problems and the foundation on the addition in the back of the home is crumbling. In the back yard we found all kinds of animals that had died or had been killed and the bodies left to rot, others we found were exposed skeletins of horses. There were 2 horses, more than 5 dogs, several beheaded goats, bunnies, there was evidence of chickens, rabbits and others we were not sure of. There were layers of animals covered by lime, hay, feces, etc... and on and on. So this had been going on for a while. There were many animal cages, a pole barn, dog houses garage sliding down the hill and etc... that we tore down and had to burn most of it. We also burned the bodies and skeletons of all the animals we could find, it was so sad to find all those poor animals.
Apparantly the kids in the smaller, lower house did not believe in taking their trash to the curb, all they did is drop it in the basement, on the porch around the yard and left a lot of it in the house. There was rat and cat feces all over everywhere, and a rat skeleton (probably a pet, we found a cage for one).
My husband went to step on the stairs in the big house and his foot broke the tread and scraped his shin, (he contrated an infection of some type and had to see a doctor).
The good news is most the hard work of cleaning is done. The little house will be my art studio/guest house. The big house, our daughter Sabrina wants to buy.
We are hoping to make it not such an eyesore for the neighborhood and hopefully not bring down the value of other homes in the area.

Truck and boat
My husband is an impulse shopper. Our son-in-law gave us a boat. So Edward went to Florida to pick it up. On his way back he decided we needed a 4 wheel drive truck. He called to let me help him decide. So now we have a new truck and and a boat.
Close Call
This poor guy's wheel came loose from the steering and he came too close to our truck. He was able to steer even with one front wheel working. What a scary thing to happen! Poor guy! This happend in July 2009.
Loss of my car.
In Feb. of 2009 we had a big storm come through and down a lot of trees in the area. One of the trees that went down was this mighty Maple tree. It was over 120 years old (I stopped counting rings toward the center because the chainsaw left black burn marks in the center and I could not see more rings clearly). A picture of it actually made it into the local newspaper. I was so sad to see my poor Saturn go. It was a good car.

| I started a beehive last Spring (2010) and here are a few of my bees. |
I don't know much about beekeeping but I guess I will find out soon enough. I have one hive and it seems to be doing okay. I have given them a lot of sugar water this first year. I don't know why but it looks to me like those are different kinds of bees. I have no idea.
